Ex-Convict Arrested at Degede for Allegedly Stealing Woman's Bag
An ex-convict, identified as Akwasi Nsia, 38, has been arrested at Degede, a suburb of Bibiani in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, for allegedly stealing a woman's bag containing cash and personal documents.
According to the complainant, Madam Gifty Oteng, a provision store owner, the incident occurred while she was asleep. She alleged that the suspect opened the window of her room and used a stick to pull out her handbag, which she normally uses for her business.
She said she discovered the bag was missing when she woke up and began searching for it. Shortly afterward, a friend informed her that she had seen the suspect lurking behind her window around the time of the theft.
Rather than raising an alarm immediately, Madam Oteng and her friend decided to monitor the suspect's movements, hoping he would return to the area.
Their patience paid off when the suspect reportedly returned, pretending to find out what had happened. Upon seeing him, Madam Oteng alerted some young men in the community, who quickly apprehended him.
According to the victim, the suspect was assaulted by some residents before she arrived at the scene. She said he pleaded with her to call the police to prevent further attacks.
Madam Oteng further disclosed that during questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted to stealing the bag and led them to his room, where it was recovered.
She said the bag contained only her Ghana Card and NHIS card, while GH¢1,500, which she claimed had been inside the bag, was missing.
The suspect has since been handed over to the police for investigations and possible prosecution. Police are expected to continue investigations into the alleged theft and the missing cash.
