Fatal Road Accident Claims Life of Pedestrian at Oldtown, Bibiani
A tragic motor traffic accident has claimed the life of a pedestrian at Oldtown in Bibiani on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
According to information from the Bibiani Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. Police received the report at about 6:00 p.m. and proceeded to the scene, where the vehicle involved had already been removed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect driver, identified as 42-year-old Fredrick Ampadu Yeboah, was driving a Toyota Hilux with registration number GE 2119-19 from Goaso towards Bibiani. Upon reaching a section of the road at Oldtown, he allegedly failed to exercise due care and knocked down a pedestrian, Mary Gamage, who was attempting to cross the road.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital for emergency medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police later visited the hospital and confirmed the victim’s death at the emergency ward. The body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.
The accident vehicle has been impounded and taken to the police station for further examination, while the suspect driver is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
Authorities say further details will be communicated as investigations continue.
