W/N/R : Medical superintendent complains about high rates of suicide attempts among patients
Dr. Jonathan Mensah, the Medical Superintendent of Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital, is worried about the alarming number of suicide attempts among patients.
He claims factors like heartbreak, depression, and family problems, among others, can be linked to the attempts.
Dr. Mensah revealed this during an interview with Newsmen at the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Health Directorate Annual Health Review on Friday, February 16, 2024.
He emphasized the need for immediate attention and intervention, which is why the hospital is ready to address these issues.
He advised the public to be watchful and alert the hospital about any questionable conduct from people who seem depressed and discuss relationship issues.
Nana Kwadjo Mensah, the Chief of Sefwi Futa and meeting chair, called on the government to prioritize completing abandoned health facilities in the municipality, the Asawinso health centre.
He said that completing these projects will provide employment opportunities for young people to keep them occupied.
