Residents Rejoice as DRIP Transforms Poor Roads into Motorable Routes in Bibiani Municipality
The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Directorate of the DRIP Department has intensified efforts to improve road conditions across the Municipality, as part of a broader initiative to enhance transportation, stimulate local economic activities, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
As part of these ongoing interventions, the Department has successfully undertaken reshaping works on the Bassengeley–Obuasi Krom road, a key route that serves several communities and facilitates the movement of people, goods, and services. The exercise is expected to significantly ease the difficulties commuters and drivers have long faced on the stretch, particularly during the rainy season when the road often becomes nearly impassable.
In an interview, the Municipal DRIP Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Achampong, popularly known as “Legacy,” explained that the reshaping exercise forms part of a strategic plan to make roads within the Municipality more motorable, safe, and accessible. He noted that the poor state of some feeder roads has been a major concern for residents, negatively affecting transportation, access to markets, and emergency services.
According to him, the successful execution of the project was made possible through the support of the Member of Parliament (MP) and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who jointly funded the fuel required for the road works. He commended their commitment to development and responsiveness to the needs of the people, emphasizing that such collaboration is essential in addressing infrastructure challenges at the local level.
Mr. Achampong further assured residents that the DRIP Department remains committed to extending similar road maintenance and improvement works to other parts of the Municipality. He stressed that the ultimate goal is to ensure that communities are well connected, thereby promoting trade, easing transportation, and supporting socio-economic growth.
Residents of Bassengeley and Obuasi Krom have welcomed the intervention with excitement and relief. Many expressed their appreciation to the Municipal Assembly, the MP, and the MCE for prioritizing their concerns. Some residents noted that the road had been in a deplorable condition for years, making daily commuting stressful, time-consuming, and costly. They believe the reshaping will not only reduce vehicle maintenance costs but also improve access to schools, healthcare facilities, and markets.
Drivers who frequently use the route also shared their satisfaction, indicating that the improved condition of the road will enhance safety, reduce travel time, and boost business activities along the stretch. They, however, called on authorities to ensure regular maintenance to sustain the gains made.
The ongoing road reshaping initiative by the DRIP Department reflects a renewed commitment by municipal authorities to tackle infrastructure deficits and respond to the pressing needs of communities. As work continues in other areas, residents remain hopeful that more roads within the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality will receive similar attention in the near future.
