Promoting Peace and Addressing Community Needs: Imam Iddris Suleman Bamba Calls for Collective Action
Imam Iddris Suleman Bamba, the First Deputy Chief Imam of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, has made a strong call on all Ghanaians to actively promote and safeguard peace, stressing that it is a shared responsibility that goes beyond religious leaders and government authorities.
Speaking in a recent engagement, Imam Bamba underscored the critical role peace plays in national development and religious harmony. He explained that without a peaceful environment, essential aspects of life—including the freedom to worship—are seriously affected. “Without peace, pastors cannot go to church and imams cannot go to the mosque,” he stated, emphasizing that peace remains the foundation upon which all societal activities are built.
He further called on citizens to be mindful of their actions, words, and attitudes, noting that maintaining peace begins at the individual and community levels. According to him, tolerance, mutual respect, and unity among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds are key to sustaining the country’s stability.
Beyond the call for peace, Imam Bamba also used the opportunity to draw attention to pressing socio-economic challenges confronting the Muslim community in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality. He acknowledged the support often provided during the Ramadan period, particularly the donation of food items such as rice and sugar, but stressed that such interventions are no longer enough to meet the long-term needs of the people.
According to the Imam, the focus should now shift towards sustainable development initiatives that can have a lasting impact on the lives of community members. He highlighted access to quality education, improved healthcare delivery, and the creation of sustainable job opportunities as critical areas that require urgent attention.
He explained that investing in education would empower the youth and equip them with the skills needed to compete in today’s economy, while improved healthcare services would ensure the well-being of families across the Municipality. Additionally, he noted that job creation remains essential in reducing poverty and improving livelihoods.
Imam Bamba also expressed concern about what he described as inadequate attention given to the needs of the Muslim community by the current government. He urged policymakers, government officials, and local authorities to adopt more inclusive and people-centered policies that address the real challenges facing the community.
He called for stronger collaboration between government agencies, community leaders, and development partners to ensure that resources are fairly distributed and that no group is left behind in the development process.
The Imam concluded with a passionate appeal for unity and collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders—government, religious leaders, and citizens alike—to work together in building a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous society.
His message serves as a timely reminder that peace, social development, and community welfare are deeply interconnected. Achieving meaningful progress, he noted, requires a shared commitment from all, as well as deliberate efforts to address both immediate needs and long-term challenges.
As Ghana continues to strive for national cohesion and development, Imam Iddris Suleman Bamba’s call to action stands as a powerful appeal for renewed focus on peace, inclusivity, and sustainable growth for all citizens.
