The Headmaster of Sefwi Asawinso Senior High School, Mr. Richard Anane, has appealed to mining companies and other stakeholders operating in the Western North Region to urgently support the school with critical infrastructure development.

Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV correspondent Berima Kantinka at his office, Mr. Anane disclosed that the school continues to face serious infrastructure challenges, including inadequate classroom space, lack of modern assembly and dining halls, and insufficient student facilities, which are negatively affecting effective teaching and learning.

According to him, the increasing student population at the school requires immediate intervention to create a more conducive academic environment.

“Infrastructure remains a critical challenge for us at Sefwi Asawinso SHS. We need stakeholders and our mining partners in Western North to come on board and help us create a conducive learning environment for our students,” he stated.

Mr. Anane called on corporate institutions, especially mining firms operating within the region, to extend support to the school through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.

He noted that support from mining companies has historically contributed significantly to educational development in many communities across the region and expressed hope that Sefwi Asawinso SHS would also benefit from similar interventions.

The headmaster listed the school’s priority needs as:

Additional classroom blocks

Ultra-modern assembly and dining halls

Furniture and learning materials

He further appealed to stakeholders, philanthropists, old students, and development partners to visit the school, assess the challenges firsthand, and collaborate with management to provide sustainable solutions.

Mining companies in the Western North Region have over the years contributed to educational development through infrastructure projects and the provision of learning materials. In Bibiani, Asante Gold Bibiani Limited recently donated 250 desks to Queens Girls’ Senior High School to help address furniture shortages. The company has also undertaken infrastructure projects in several catchment communities and announced plans for the construction of a 100-bed hospital in Bibiani.

Similarly, Chirano Gold Mines, through the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation, has supported education in the region through the provision of teachers’ accommodation, scholarships, and classroom rehabilitation projects.

Mr. Anane stressed that such interventions demonstrate the impact corporate institutions can make when they prioritize education and community development. He expressed optimism that with the needed support, Sefwi Asawinso SHS would be able to improve infrastructure, accommodate growing enrollment, and enhance academic performance.
