Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II Donates Educational Materials to Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Education Directorate

Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council Paramount Chief and President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, has donated teaching and learning materials as well as assorted drinks and snacks to the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Education Directorate to support pupils and students ahead of the reopening of schools.

The donation is intended to support the Municipal Education Directorate’s planned “My First Day at School” programme, which seeks to welcome and motivate children, particularly those entering school for the first time.

The items presented included exercise books, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, mathematical sets, textbooks and other educational materials. The donation also included assorted drinks and snacks such as Kalipo, Bigo, Frutali, biscuits, Toppies and other refreshments, which are expected to be distributed among pupils and students during the programme.

The presentation brought together traditional leaders, education officials and other stakeholders who commended Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II for his continued commitment to education and the development of young people.

Speaking to the media on behalf of Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II after the presentation, Nana Kofi Ankra IV, Dwantuahene of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, said the Paramount Chief places great importance on education and believes that supporting children at an early stage can motivate them to take their education seriously.

According to him, the donation was made at a crucial time when schools were preparing to reopen and the Education Directorate was getting ready to welcome children to school.

He said the gesture was aimed at helping to boost the morale of pupils and encourage children to develop a positive attitude towards education.

Nana Kofi Ankra IV further noted that Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II’s commitment to education goes beyond words, pointing to his role in the establishment of Sefwi Anhwiaso Queens Girls Senior High School as one of the major indications of his passion for education.

He explained that the Paramount Chief has consistently demonstrated his belief that education is one of the most important tools for transforming communities and preparing the younger generation to take up leadership responsibilities in the future.

Also speaking, Nana Ekyea Akwassi, Abakomahene of the Sefwi Anhwiaso-Bekwai area and Queen Mother of Sefwi Tanoso Praso, called for a renewed emphasis on discipline in Ghanaian schools.

She said discipline is an essential component of quality education and must be encouraged among pupils, students, teachers and parents.

Nana Ekyea Akwassi stressed that instilling discipline in children from an early age would help shape responsible citizens and contribute to producing capable and responsible future leaders.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Education Directorate, Mr. Richard Boateng, Municipal Director of Education, expressed gratitude to Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II for the gesture.

He said the donation had come at the right time, particularly because the Directorate was preparing to organise activities for the “My First Day at School” programme.

Mr. Boateng described Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II as a strong advocate for education and said the donation would go a long way to support the Directorate’s efforts to make the programme successful.

He explained that providing educational materials and refreshments to children, especially those entering school for the first time, could make their first experience at school memorable and encourage them to develop interest in learning.

The Municipal Director of Education therefore appealed to other individuals, traditional leaders, organisations, businesses and philanthropists within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality to emulate the example of Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II by supporting education in the municipality.

He said collective support from stakeholders would help improve teaching and learning conditions while giving children the necessary motivation and resources to pursue their education.

The donation forms part of efforts by stakeholders to strengthen education in the municipality and ensure that children are given the right support as they begin or continue their academic journey.

The beneficiaries are expected to receive the donated materials through the Municipal Education Directorate as schools reopen.
