President Mahama to Announce Major Road Projects for Asunafo South – Hon. Eric Opoku

Sankore, Ahafo Region – The Member of Parliament for Asunafo South and Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has disclosed that several major road projects in the constituency are expected to commence with funding from the World Bank under the government of President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Minister, the projects are intended to improve road connectivity, facilitate trade, enhance agricultural activities, and ease the movement of people and goods across the constituency.

Hon. Eric Opoku made the announcement during the sod-cutting ceremony to officially restart the reconstruction of the Sankore Car Terminal.

He revealed that the roads earmarked for rehabilitation include the Kukuom–Datano Road, Kukuom–Yenkye Road, and the Abuom–Nakate Road through the forest.

The Minister said the projects form part of the government's broader agenda to improve road infrastructure in underserved communities and support socio-economic development in the Ahafo Region.

He indicated that President John Dramani Mahama is expected to officially announce the commencement of the projects in the near future.

"These roads are critical to the economic development of Asunafo South. They serve farming communities and commercial centres, and their reconstruction will improve transportation, reduce travel time, and open up more opportunities for trade and investment," Hon. Eric Opoku stated.

He assured residents that the government remains committed to fulfilling its infrastructure promises and ensuring that communities receive the road network needed to support development.

The announcement was warmly received by residents and community leaders who have long appealed for the rehabilitation of the roads due to their importance to agriculture, commerce, and access to essential services.

The revelation comes as work begins on the reconstruction of the Sankore Car Terminal, a project expected to improve transportation services and create a more organised and modern terminal for commuters and commercial drivers in the municipality.
