Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Education Director Appeals for Modern Office, Vehicle and School Infrastructure

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Richard Boateng, has appealed to stakeholders and development partners to support the Municipal Education Directorate with a modern office complex and other essential resources to improve the delivery of education services in the municipality.

Mr. Boateng made the appeal when he spoke to the media after receiving teaching and learning materials, drinks and assorted snacks donated to the Municipal Education Directorate by the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council Paramount Chief and President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II.

According to the Municipal Director of Education, the current office accommodation of the Directorate is inadequate and does not provide the needed working environment for staff to effectively carry out their duties.

He explained that the limited space has compelled the Directorate to combine some offices, a situation he described as unsuitable for an institution responsible for coordinating and supervising education across the municipality.

Mr. Boateng said the lack of adequate office space affects privacy, efficiency and the general working conditions of staff, and therefore called on the government, traditional authorities, corporate organisations, development partners and other philanthropists to consider supporting the construction of a modern Municipal Education Directorate office.

Directorate appeals for vehicle

Mr. Boateng also appealed for a reliable vehicle to support the operations of the Directorate.

He disclosed that the Directorate previously had two vehicles, but one of them is currently not functioning, leaving the institution with only one operational vehicle.

He said the situation has created serious challenges for the Directorate, particularly when officers are required to travel to schools across the municipality for monitoring, supervision, inspection and other official assignments.

According to him, having only one functional vehicle makes it difficult for officers to carry out their duties efficiently, especially when several activities need to be undertaken at different locations at the same time.

He therefore appealed for assistance to acquire an additional vehicle to enable education officers to reach schools and communities more effectively.

Call for renovation of ageing school buildings

The Municipal Director further appealed for the renovation of some school buildings within the municipality which, he said, have become old and require urgent attention.

He explained that some school infrastructure has deteriorated over the years and needs rehabilitation to provide pupils and teachers with safe and conducive environments for teaching and learning.

Mr. Boateng stressed that improving school infrastructure was important to ensuring quality education, adding that pupils should not be expected to learn effectively in classrooms that are in poor condition.

Shortage of furniture

Another major concern raised by the Municipal Director was the need for adequate furniture in schools.

He appealed for more tables and chairs for both teachers and students, saying shortages of furniture in some schools continue to affect teaching and learning.

He noted that while teachers require appropriate furniture to perform their duties comfortably, students also need suitable desks and chairs to enable them to concentrate during lessons and participate effectively in classroom activities.

Mr. Boateng called on individuals, traditional authorities, businesses, corporate institutions, non-governmental organisations and other development partners to support the Municipality with school furniture and other educational infrastructure.

He expressed appreciation to Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II for his donation to the Directorate, describing it as timely and valuable support for the education sector.

He said such interventions demonstrate the important role traditional leaders and other stakeholders can play in complementing government efforts to improve education.

The Municipal Director appealed for continued collaboration among the government, traditional authorities, private sector, development partners and local communities to address the infrastructure and logistical challenges facing education in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality.

He said providing the Directorate and schools with the necessary facilities, logistics and working tools would ultimately contribute to improving educational outcomes and creating a better environment for both teachers and learners.
