“KNOW THE WORK OF YOUR PARTNER AND IGNORE JEALOUSY AND RIVALRY” — DCOP DR. FRANCIS KWAME TSIDI URGES POLICE SPOUSES

Sefwi Tanoaso, Western North Region — The Western North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi, has called on spouses of police officers to understand the demanding nature of police work and avoid suspicion, jealousy and rivalry in their marriages and within the Police Spouses Association.

According to him, the nature of policing requires officers to make significant sacrifices, including working long hours, responding to emergencies and being exposed to various risks in the line of duty.

DCOP Dr. Tsidi made the call during the inauguration of the Police Spouses Association in the Western North Region, held at the Akatakyie Royal Village Hotel at Sefwi Tanoaso.

He urged members to recognize the challenges their partners face in the discharge of their duties and provide them with the necessary emotional and moral support.

“Know the work of your partner. Policing comes with sacrifices, late hours and risks. When you understand this, you will give your spouses the needed support instead of suspicion.”

The Regional Police Commander also cautioned members against allowing jealousy and rivalry to undermine the objectives of the newly established Association.

He encouraged them to build an atmosphere of love, peace, understanding and cooperation, stressing that unity among police families would contribute significantly to the effectiveness and wellbeing of officers.

“Ignore the spirit of jealousy and rivalry among yourselves. Let love, peace and cooperation guide the Association,” he advised.

Call for Economic Empowerment

DCOP Dr. Tsidi further encouraged the spouses to engage in legitimate income-generating activities that could improve their economic independence and contribute to the welfare of their respective families.

He urged members to support one another, share ideas and take advantage of opportunities in skills development and entrepreneurship.

He also encouraged them to become ambassadors of peace and discipline in their communities, noting that the conduct of police families should reflect the values and principles of the Ghana Police Service.

Association to Promote Welfare and Unity

The newly inaugurated Police Spouses Association is expected to serve as a platform for bringing spouses of police officers together to promote unity, welfare, empowerment and mutual support.

The Association will also seek to strengthen relationships among members while supporting police families in areas that directly affect their wellbeing.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mr. Enoch Kusi, explained that the organization was established with a clear focus on peace, harmony, welfare and economic empowerment.

He said the Association's mission was to foster peace, harmony and mutual support among members while supporting their husbands in their service to the nation.

According to him, the Association would also create opportunities for members to acquire skills and engage in income-generating activities to improve their livelihoods.

“Our mission is to foster peace, harmony and mutual support among members, while supporting our husbands in their service to the nation. We also aim to create opportunities for personal and economic growth through skills training and income-generating activities,” Mr. Kusi stated.

Vision for a Self-Reliant Association

Mr. Kusi further outlined the Association's vision of building a strong, united and self-reliant organization capable of contributing meaningfully to the wellbeing of police families and the development of communities.

He said the Association sought to become a pillar of support, discipline and service while upholding values consistent with those of the Ghana Police Service.

“We envision a strong, united and self-reliant Association that contributes meaningfully to the wellbeing of police families and the development of our communities. We want to be a pillar of support, discipline and service that reflects the values of the Ghana Police Service,” he added.

He disclosed that the Association would focus on key areas including education, health, entrepreneurship, skills development and community service.

Members Pledge Commitment

Members of the Association expressed their appreciation for the inauguration and pledged to work together to achieve its objectives.

They also committed themselves to promoting harmony, discipline, solidarity and mutual support among members, while contributing positively to the welfare of their families and communities.

The inauguration brought together police officers, their spouses and other dignitaries, who described the formation of the Association as an important initiative that could strengthen family life within the Police Service.

The event also provided an opportunity for members to reflect on the important role spouses play in supporting police officers, particularly given the demanding and sometimes unpredictable nature of police duties.

The establishment of the Police Spouses Association in the Western North Region is therefore expected to provide a stronger support network for police families while creating opportunities for members to improve their social and economic wellbeing.
