Toilets are crucial for the healthy development of people, not to mention children. So is sanitation–facilities and services for safe disposal of human urine and feces include maintaining hygiene through services such as garbage collection and wastewater disposal.
The overall purpose of good sanitation is to provide a healthy living environment for everyone, protect the natural resources such as surface water, groundwater, and soil, and provide safety, security and dignity for people when they defecate or urinate.
In Ghana, many schools lack toilet facilities and few having, needing improvement to meet quality sanitation purpose.
One school that needs immediate attention on their toilet facility is Sefwi Atronsu M/A primary and JHS in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
Because of this, Sefwi Atronsu Educational Foundation has mobilized funds to put up such sanitary facility for school in their community.
Students are calling on government to help improve their toilet facilities.
Mr Samuel Gyapong, the assemblyman for the area, shared the ordeals on how the Students attend to nature’s call during school hours.
He said the school’s toilet facility is in a deplorable state, making its usage inconvenient.
“The situation has compelled them to ease themselves at home during school hours and the distance is far. Sometimes they have to go to the nearest bush to attend nature’s call.
Some executive members of the Sefwi Atronsu Educational stated that the students face a high risk of crossing the roads during school hours to access the public toilets.
They said lack of toilet facilities is affecting teaching and learning conditions unbearable in the school.
They called for prompt support from the government, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to help address the menace by supporting them with any amount of money to improve sanitation in the area.
