IMES Africa Strengthens Commitment to Environmental Sustainability and Community Development

The Administrator of the Institute of Mines and Environmental Safety (IMES Africa), Mr. David Acquah, has reaffirmed the institution's commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and supporting community development through active participation in sanitation initiatives.

He made the statement during a community clean-up exercise organized by IMES Africa at the Bibiani District Police Headquarters in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

The exercise brought together management, staff, and students of the institution, who desilted choked gutters, cleared weeds, and cleaned the entire police headquarters compound to improve sanitation and create a healthier environment.

Mr. Acquah explained that IMES Africa believes community service is an important part of its mission and that environmental cleanliness is essential for public health and sustainable development.

According to him, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and the failure to maintain drains contribute significantly to flooding and the spread of diseases, especially during the rainy season. He stressed that regular clean-up exercises and proper waste management would help reduce these challenges.

He urged residents, institutions, and corporate organizations to make sanitation a priority by participating in communal labour and supporting initiatives aimed at keeping communities clean.

Mr. Acquah further noted that, beyond training young people in mining and environmental safety, IMES Africa is committed to instilling a sense of civic responsibility in its students by encouraging them to contribute positively to society through volunteerism and community service.

He expressed the institution's readiness to continue partnering with the Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders on programmes that promote environmental protection, public health, and sustainable community development in Bibiani and beyond.
