Healthy Living Is a Shared Responsibility – Bibiani Environmental Health Officer

Bibiani, Western North Region – The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Mathew Nyinkon, has urged residents to adopt proper sanitation practices, emphasizing that maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility.

He made the appeal during a community clean-up exercise organized by the Institute of Mines and Environmental Safety (IMES Africa), a mining training institution based in Bibiani.

The exercise was carried out at the Bibiani District Police Headquarters, where students and staff of the institution desilted choked gutters, cleared weeds, and cleaned the entire premises as part of efforts to improve environmental sanitation and promote healthy living.

Mr. Nyinkon praised the management and students of IMES Africa for demonstrating commitment to community service through the clean-up exercise. He noted that such initiatives complement the Municipal Assembly's efforts to improve sanitation and reduce the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases.

He further encouraged residents to comply with environmental sanitation regulations and actively participate in the government's monthly national sanitation exercises to help create a cleaner, healthier, and safer municipality.

The Administrator of the Institute of Mines and Environmental Safety (IMES Africa), Mr. David Acquah, said the institution considers community service an important part of its social responsibility.

According to him, poor sanitation and choked drains remain major causes of flooding in many communities, especially during the rainy season. He noted that regular clean-up exercises would help prevent flooding, improve public health, and create a healthier environment for residents.

Mr. Acquah appealed to individuals, corporate organizations, and institutions to support communal labour activities and contribute to keeping Bibiani and its surrounding communities clean.

The exercise forms part of IMES Africa's commitment to promoting environmental sustainability while encouraging students to actively participate in community development initiatives.
