On August 6, 2025, a Ghana Air Force helicopter carrying eight people to an event about fighting illegal mining (galamsey) crashed into a forested mountainside in the Ashanti region, killing eight hardworking Ghanaians.
Due to this incident, the Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly in the Western North region, Honourable Dominic Gyasi, has warned citizens involved in illegal mining to abstain from such a bad habit since it has a significant impact on the country at large.According to him, the fight against illegal mining in the country from today will be relentless.
In his speech, he outlined some instances where galamsey has caused harm to the country, including the loss of citizens' lives through illegal mining, such as the eight hardworking citizens who just lost their lives. He emphasized that the entire country is not safe due to the impact of illegal mining and has therefore called on all to come together to join the fight.
