Government Urged to Channel Tree for Life Initiative through Youth Employment Agency to Reduce Unemployment

Nana Kwadjo Bonya I, the Atipemhene of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area and Chief of Sefwi Atta-Nyame-krom in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region has appealed to the government to channel the Tree for Life (T4L) Initiative program through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to reduce unemployment.

Speaking on behalf of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area's Paramount Chief during the Bibiani forest district Tree for Life ceremonial planting at Bibiani.

Nana Kwadjo Bonya I emphasized the importance of proper supervision and care for the trees.

The traditional authority noted that the program is annual, but without proper supervision after planting, its impact may be limited. By employing youth to take care of the trees, the initiative can yield good results.

He encouraged the public to participate in the initiative to help restore the forest.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Hon. Sebastian Obeng, added that the Tree for Life program represents a collective commitment to reversing the damage done to the environment. The program focuses not only on reforestation but also on educating communities about sustainable practices and preserving natural heritage.

He called on the gethering to not just plant trees but hope for a greener more sustainable future.

The Bibiani district forest manager, Mr Richard okyere-Amoateng stated that they aim to plant 6,000 trees, targeting students to educate them on environmental practices and their importance for human survival.

The tree-planting exercise will continue throughout June and early July to take advantage of the rainy season.

He advised students to keep the environment safe for themselves and future generations, encouraging them to become good environmental campaigners and ambassadors.
