E/R: AKYEM ODA: KOTOKU QUEEN MOTHER ANGRY OVER UNFAIR TREATMENT OF QUEENS
The Paramount Queen Mother of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Nana Akua Asantewaa III, has spoken out angrily against the unfair treatment some chiefs are giving to queen mothers in the traditional area. She has vowed to protect the queen mothers with the last drop of her blood.
Addressing the press during a press conference held at her residence in Akyem Oda, in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, the Paramount Queen Mother lamented about the unfair treatment given to queen mothers in the Kotoku Traditional Area. She revealed that, according to Akyem Kotoku tradition, the only person with the sole power and authority to rebuke or destool any queen mother is the Paramount Queen Mother. However, it is disheartening to see certain chiefs frustrating some queen mothers by claiming to have unlawfully destooled them.
She has therefore assured all the queen mothers in the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area of her full support and has advised them to unite and withstand the unfair treatment from their chiefs, so as to maintain peace. Citing an example, she said some people are making noise that the Akyem Asene Queen Mother has been destooled, but it is not true because such an issue has not been laid before her as the Paramount Queen Mother. Therefore, anyone who hears such a pronouncement should treat it as a false rumor.
Meanwhile, some of the queen mothers in the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area who were present at the press conference also expressed their displeasure at the unfair treatment given to them by some Kotoku chiefs in their communities. They called for unity among the queen mothers to withstand such unfair treatment.
