Eid-ul-Adha: Let’s Thank God for Peace and Avoid Negativity – Chief Imam

Imam Nuhu Mohammed, the Third Deputy Chief Imam of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, has called on Ghanaians, particularly Muslim youth, to remain grateful to God for the prevailing peace in the country and refrain from engaging in activities that could threaten national unity and social harmony.

Speaking ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, Imam Nuhu Mohammed emphasized the importance of preserving peace through discipline, tolerance, and responsible behaviour. According to him, peace remains one of the greatest blessings any nation can enjoy, and citizens must work together to protect it at all times.

He urged Ghanaians to appreciate God’s blessings instead of indulging in negative acts such as drug abuse, violence, criminal activities, and other behaviours that could bring hardship and divine punishment upon the nation.

“We must thank God for the peace we are enjoying as a nation and avoid engaging in negativity. Drug abuse, violence, and criminal activities only destroy lives, families, and communities,” he stated.

The respected Islamic leader also advised Muslim youth to desist from reckless and unnecessary motorcycle riding, especially during festive celebrations, stressing that such behaviour often results in preventable accidents, injuries, and loss of lives.

He called on young people to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha peacefully and responsibly while respecting the laws of the country and the values of Islam.

Touching on security concerns, Imam Nuhu Mohammed addressed perceptions linking some Zongo communities to criminal and terrorist activities. He explained that the actions of a few individuals should not be used to judge entire communities, but stressed that residents must remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to help identify and expose criminals hiding among them.

According to him, community members have a shared responsibility to protect the image of their communities and religion by refusing to shield individuals involved in unlawful activities.

“We should not protect criminals in our communities. Anyone whose actions threaten peace and security must be reported to the police. Together, we can help maintain peace and protect the good image of Islam and our communities,” he emphasized.

Imam Nuhu Mohammed further encouraged parents, opinion leaders, and religious authorities to guide the youth towards discipline, education, and positive lifestyles that would contribute to national development.

He noted that Eid-ul-Adha is a period of sacrifice, unity, compassion, and reflection, and therefore Muslims should use the occasion to strengthen peaceful coexistence and support one another.

The Imam’s message comes at a time when religious and community leaders across the country are intensifying calls for peace, vigilance, and responsible conduct among the youth during festive celebrations.
