MCE Cautions Students Against Galamsey, Okada and Pragya Riding

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, Hon. Sebastian Obeng, has cautioned students in the municipality against engaging in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and riding commercial motorcycles commonly referred to as Okada and Pragya.

He gave the caution during a ceremony where the Member of Parliament for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo, presented educational materials to more than 430 students who obtained aggregates between 6 and 12 and are preparing to enter Senior High School (SHS).

The MCE urged the students to remain focused on their education and avoid activities that could negatively affect their studies, health and future aspirations.

He stressed that education is an important pathway to achieving their goals and becoming responsible citizens and future leaders.

Hon. Sebastian Obeng also cautioned the students against the use of illegal drugs, urging them to make responsible choices and stay away from peer pressure and other activities that could jeopardise their future.

He further appealed to parents and guardians to take an active interest in the activities of their children by monitoring their movements, friends and general conduct.

The MCE's advice comes as the students prepare to begin a new chapter of their educational journey at the Senior High School level.

Meanwhile, Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo donated trunks, exercise books, pens, school bags and plastic chop boxes to the beneficiaries.

According to the MP, the initiative forms part of his commitment to supporting education in the constituency and fulfilling his campaign promises to students.

He said the intervention is intended to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while motivating students to take their education seriously.

Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo emphasised that the support was provided without discrimination, stressing the importance of giving students the necessary resources to succeed academically.

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Richard Boateng, expressed appreciation to the MP for the gesture.

He assured that teachers in the municipality would continue to work hard to improve academic performance and help produce students who could become future leaders.

Mr. Boateng also encouraged members of the public to report challenges or practices affecting the education sector to the Municipal Education Directorate so that appropriate action could be taken.

He appealed for patience from parents and students who did not receive some of the items, assuring them that their concerns would be addressed where possible.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo for the support and promised to make good use of the educational materials.

They pledged to remain focused on their studies, work hard and aspire to become responsible and productive future leaders.
