Catholic Bishop Voices Strong Stance Against Illegal Mining


The Sefwi Wiawso Catholic Bishop, Most Reverend Samuel Nkuah Boateng, who also serves as the Western North Regional Chairman of the Peace Council, has emphasized the urgent need to combat illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.

Bishop Boateng echoed the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference statement describing illegal mining as one of the gravest afflictions of our time. He highlighted that galamsey is causing significant harm to the country's development.

The Bishop stated that the Catholic Bishops' Conference will not give up until the fight against galamsey is achieved. He emphasized that addressing galamsey requires the government to put proper measures in place.

Most Reverend Samuel Nkuah Boateng called for a collaborative effort to fight against galamsey. He urged media personalities to play a robust role in speaking out against illegal mining.

The Bishop supported the notion that effective measures by the country's leadership can help end galamsey, stressing the need for proper mining practices.
