The Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brentum, has expressed profound appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama following the donation of 250 laptops to the region under the government's flagship One Million Coders Programme.
The initiative forms part of a broader national agenda aimed at equipping one million Ghanaians with essential digital skills in areas such as coding, cybersecurity, data analytics, and networking. The programme is expected to play a pivotal role in Ghana's digital transformation, while creating employment opportunities and fostering innovation among the youth.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Brentum praised President Mahama for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to empowering young people with the technological skills required to thrive in the modern digital economy. He noted that the programme aligns perfectly with the President's broader vision of resetting Ghana's economy through innovation, technology, and human capital development.
Hon. Joseph Appiah, popularly known as Amonia, the District Chief Executive for Sefwi Akontombra and Dean of MMDCEs in the Western North Region, also lauded President Mahama and the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations for extending the initiative to the region.
He further commended the Western North Regional Minister for his instrumental role in ensuring the successful rollout of the programme in the region, describing it as a significant milestone that will positively impact the lives of many young people.
According to him, the initiative will not only bridge the digital divide but also position the youth of Western North to compete favourably in the global digital marketplace.
Meanwhile, the Western North Regional Director of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Mr. Lameni Awudu, urged all beneficiary districts to properly maintain the laptops to ensure their longevity and effectiveness.
He also encouraged interested individuals across the region to take advantage of the opportunity by applying through the official registration portal.
"There are no qualification barriers. Anyone interested in acquiring digital skills should simply visit the portal and register," he emphasized.
The One Million Coders Programme is expected to transform Ghana's digital landscape by nurturing a new generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology professionals.
