Thieves Ransack NCCE Office in Bibiani, Steal Valuable Items
Barely two months after an earlier break-in, the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Western North Region has once again been attacked by unknown persons, who made away with several valuable items.
The earlier incident led to the theft of desktop computers and accessories, a public address (PA) system, spare tyres, pull-up banners, and a storage box.
Speaking in an interview with Awuku Addo during a visit to the office to verify the reports, the Municipal Director of the NCCE, Madam Martha Nneka Opara, disclosed that the thieves returned on Tuesday and stole two electric fans, a cabinet, and a box of A4 sheets.
She added that the suspects also broke into other government offices located within the same premises. These included the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Audit Department, and the Electoral Commission’s store, where items such as a main switch, electrical wires, service lines, and air conditioners were reportedly stolen.
Madam Opara said the incident has been officially reported to the Municipal Assembly through the Coordinating Director, as well as to the police for investigation.
According to her, she was shocked to learn from the Coordinating Director that his office had also been ransacked, with his television set stolen.
She lamented that the NCCE and CHRAJ offices have been neglected for years, with little attention given to renovation or maintenance. She also decried the lack of electricity, absence of security personnel, and the shortage of labourers to maintain the premises, especially during the rainy season.
Madam Opara described the situation as a serious challenge that exposes government property to constant risk and called for urgent intervention to safeguard the facilities.
