Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly underperformed in terms of utilization of mineral revenues _ CDD Ghana. 

Despite Ghana’s large extractive sector and a decentralized system for sharing mineral royalties among the central government and local authorities, districts and communities rich in minerals continue to be among the poorest.

This according to Center for Democratic Development, CDD Ghana, suggests that mineral royalties are not being efficiently used for social development.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement in Bibiani municipal assembly hall, the research analyst for CDD Ghana, Mr Emmanuel Yeboah said per the research they have conducted using eight (8) mining MMDAs including Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai municipal under performed, scoring 39 points out of a possible score of 100, a situation he described as unfortunate and therefore needed to be attended to for possible rectification going forward.

Mr Yeboah again said they identified gradual reduction of the allocated amount meant for the various MMDAs from the top, delays in channeling the amount to the MMDAs, and lack of infrastructure for the local management committees of the mineral funds, as challenges facing the various Assemblies, he said his outfit will advocate for the needed support from government to ensure the local management committees functions effectively henceforth. 

Hon Paul Andoh, MCE, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai lauded the research conducted by CDD Ghana and the recommendations they have made, saying it will go a long way to benefit the assembly and the local management committee, adding that he was surprised with the amount allocated for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai municipal, you are considering three major Mining Companies the municipality has. He then pleaded with CDD Ghana and other authorities concerned to do further enquiries to ensure the mineral royalties are shared judiciously. 

The Chairman for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai municipal local management Committee of the mineral royalties, Nana Kwadwo Somiah ll, Abakomahene of Sefwi Anhwiaso traditional area and chief of Sefwi Ntakam also in his speech highlighted on how the local committee was constituted and some gains they have made sense its formation in 2020.
