SEFWI WIAWSO MCE DISTRIBUTES INCOME-GENERATING ITEMS AND ASSISTIVE DEVICES TO PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Sefwi Wiawso, Western North Region — The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sefwi Wiawso has distributed income-generating items and assistive devices to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality as part of efforts to promote self-reliance, economic empowerment and social inclusion.

The initiative is aimed at supporting PWDs to improve their livelihoods, establish sustainable income-generating activities and participate more actively in the socio-economic development of the municipality.

Beneficiaries received a variety of support items, including chest freezers, industrial sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, cash support, white canes, crutches and wheelchairs.

MCE Reaffirms Commitment to PWD Empowerment

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the MCE stressed that disability is not inability, emphasizing the government's commitment to creating equal opportunities for all citizens regardless of their physical condition.

He explained that the income-generating items would enable beneficiaries to establish new businesses or expand existing ventures, thereby improving their financial independence and ability to support themselves and their families.

The MCE noted that items such as chest freezers, industrial sewing machines and fufu pounding machines could provide beneficiaries with practical opportunities to engage in viable businesses and generate sustainable incomes.

He also highlighted the importance of the assistive devices, explaining that white canes, crutches and wheelchairs would enhance mobility, independence and participation in community activities.

Beneficiaries Express Appreciation

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly and the government for the support, describing the intervention as timely and potentially life-changing.

They said the income-generating equipment would help them earn a living, reduce their dependence on others and provide opportunities to support their families.

Beneficiaries who received assistive devices also expressed optimism that the support would improve their mobility, confidence and ability to participate actively in social and economic activities.

Commitment to the Disability Agenda

The initiative forms part of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly's commitment to promoting the welfare, dignity and economic empowerment of Persons With Disabilities.

The Assembly believes that inclusive development requires creating opportunities for all members of society, including persons living with disabilities, to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The MCE therefore urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items, maintain them properly and use the support as a foundation for building sustainable livelihoods.

He stressed that empowering persons with disabilities benefits not only individual beneficiaries but also their families and the wider community.

“No one should be left behind. When we empower one, we empower the whole community.”

The intervention is expected to contribute to reducing economic vulnerability among PWDs while promoting dignity, self-reliance, inclusion and greater participation in the development of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.
