“Return to Rawlings-Era Discipline Needed, Kennedy Agyapong Best Bet for NPP in 2028 — Charles Assua”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Treasurer for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency, Mr. Charles Assua, has advocated for a return to a strong and decisive governance approach reminiscent of former President Jerry John Rawlings’ era.

Speaking  on Stylish FM 102.1 morning show STYLISH IN-DE-MORNING, Mr. Assua argued that Ghana’s current challenges require firm leadership, discipline, and accountability, qualities he believes were hallmarks of the Rawlings
administration.

According to him, such a leadership style is necessary to restore public confidence in governance and strengthen democratic institutions.

In the same interview, Mr. Assua threw his support behind Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, describing him as the only individual within the NPP capable of leading the party to victory in the 2028 general elections. He noted that Kennedy Agyapong’s outspoken nature, fearlessness, and willingness to confront corruption resonate strongly with grassroots supporters and the general electorate.

Mr. Assua maintained that the NPP must present a candidate who is bold, principled, and relatable to the ordinary Ghanaian if it hopes to regain power in 2028. He emphasized that Kennedy Agyapong’s leadership style aligns with the expectations of many party faithful who are calling for reforms, internal discipline, and renewed political direction within the party.

He therefore urged party delegates and leadership to carefully consider the mood of the grassroots as the NPP prepares for its internal processes ahead of the 2028 elections, stressing that unity and credible leadership will be key to the party’s success.
