Ekom Eya Co-operative Small Scale Mine at Bibiani has demonstrated its commitment to community development by handing over a newly constructed six-room teachers’ bungalow to Donkoto Angelica Basic School in the Atwima Mponuah District of the Ashanti Region.

The facility, which is expected to help address accommodation challenges faced by teachers in the area, was officially handed over during a brief but well-attended ceremony at Donkoto.

The project forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at improving educational standards and supporting social development in communities within its catchment area.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of Ekom Eya Co-operative Small Scale Mine, Mr. Adu Gyamfi, said the company considers education as a vital pillar for national and community development.

He explained that the provision of decent accommodation for teachers would help motivate them, improve teacher retention, and ultimately enhance academic performance at the school.

According to him, the company remains committed to supporting initiatives that bring lasting benefits to the people.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponuah, Hon. Isshaq Ibrahim, commended the mining company for the timely intervention and described the project as a significant contribution to education in the district.

He emphasized that education is the key to success and development, noting that investments in education yield long-term benefits for society.

Hon. Isshaq also praised Ekom Eya Co-operative Small Scale Mine for operating responsibly over the years, adding that the company has all the required documentation and operates within the laws governing small-scale mining.

He further appealed to the management of the company to consider supporting the expansion of the Ashiresu CHPS Compound to help improve quality healthcare delivery in the district.

The DCE also called on other mining companies operating within the municipality to emulate the good example set by Ekom Eya Co-operative Small Scale Mine by contributing meaningfully to community development.

The Chief of Donkoto, Nana Kwame Awuah II, on behalf of the traditional authority and the people of the area, expressed profound gratitude to the mining company for the gesture.

He assured that the community would take good care of the teachers’ bungalow and ensure its proper maintenance for the benefit of present and future teachers.
