“Public School Students Are Equally Brilliant as Private School Students” – Nana Kofi Ankra IV

Nana Kofi Ankra IV has emphasized that academic excellence is not limited to students in private schools, stating that pupils in public schools are equally capable of performing exceptionally well when given the right support.

According to the traditional leader, the perception that only private school students perform well academically is misleading, noting that many students in government schools also demonstrate remarkable intelligence and academic potential.

Nana Kofi Ankra IV made these remarks in an interview with Hamza Mohammed after the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, organized the Inter–Junior High School Independence Day Quiz Competition for schools within the municipality.

The competition formed part of activities marking Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations and brought together several Junior High Schools to test their knowledge in subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Science, and Social Studies.

Speaking on the performance of the contestants, Nana Kofi Ankra IV noted that although private schools often perform well in such competitions, public schools also have brilliant students who can compete at the same level when given the needed encouragement and support.

He explained that one major difference between the two categories of schools is the level of support some parents provide for their children’s education. According to him, many parents whose children attend private schools ensure they provide the necessary teaching and learning materials required for effective studies.

However, he observed that some parents with children in public schools sometimes fail to provide basic learning materials such as exercise books and pens, which can negatively affect the academic performance of the students.

The traditional leader therefore appealed to parents to invest more in their children’s education by providing the needed learning materials and encouraging them to take their studies seriously.

“Education remains one of the most important tools that can secure a better future for our children,” he stressed, urging parents to support their wards both at home and in school.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, Abdul Sharif Kwaku Duah, congratulated the winning school, AGBL, for their impressive performance in the competition.

He also encouraged the other participating schools not to be discouraged by the outcome but rather work harder and prepare better for future competitions.

Mr. Duah further commended all the schools that participated in the quiz competition and praised the efforts of teachers and organizers for their dedication to promoting academic excellence among students in the municipality.
