Hon. Eric Opoku Highlights His Role in Bringing Electricity to Sankore

Speaking during the presentation of six brand-new pickup vehicles to the Asunafo South District Health Directorate at the launch of the Asunafo South District Assembly's Free Primary Healthcare Programme, Hon. Eric Opoku said the electrification of Sankore remains one of the landmark development projects he championed for the people of the area.

According to him, in the year 2000, through his efforts and the support of the then President, Jerry John Rawlings, electricity was extended to Sankore through the Kukuom–Noberkaw–Kwapong route, bringing power to the township for the first time.

Hon. Eric Opoku noted that access to electricity transformed the socio-economic lives of residents by creating opportunities for businesses, improving education, enhancing healthcare services, and raising the overall standard of living in the community.

He said the project demonstrated the commitment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government at the time to expanding rural electrification and ensuring that communities previously without electricity were connected to the national grid.

The Minister stressed that development is a continuous process and assured residents that he remains committed to initiating and supporting projects that will improve the lives of the people of Asunafo South.

He cited ongoing infrastructure projects, including the resumption of the abandoned Sankore lorry terminal and the planned construction of five kilometres of asphalt roads in the township, as evidence of his continued dedication to the constituency's development.

Hon. Eric Opoku appealed to residents to continue supporting development initiatives and to work together with traditional authorities, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to promote peace and progress within the constituency.
