The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, following a viral video showing him allegedly assaulting an 18-year-old female student.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on June 9, 2026, the suspect, who also serves as the caretaker of the school's hostel, was arrested by a Nyinahin District Police Patrol Team on Monday, June 8, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m.
Police disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect confronted the female student, Patience Chibu, and some male students over alleged misconduct within the hostel premises. During the confrontation, a misunderstanding reportedly ensued, resulting in the teacher physically assaulting the student.
The incident sparked outrage among some students, who allegedly pelted stones at the suspect. Reports further indicate that some youth from the Nyinahin township were invited to the school hostel in an attempt to attack him.
