PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES HAIL GOVERNMENT AND SEFWI WIAWSO MCE FOR SUPPORT

Sefwi Wiawso, Western North Region — Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality have expressed their appreciation to the government and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Dominic Gyasi, for the support extended to them to improve their livelihoods and wellbeing.

The beneficiaries received a range of income-generating items and assistive devices, including chest freezers, industrial sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, wheelchairs, crutches, white canes and cash support.

The beneficiaries described the intervention as timely and potentially life-changing, saying the support would help them become more self-reliant, improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

Support to Promote Self-Reliance

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, some recipients said the income-generating equipment would provide them with opportunities to establish or expand small businesses and generate sustainable income.

They explained that the support would reduce their dependence on others and enable them to contribute to the welfare of their families.

Others who received assistive devices said the wheelchairs, crutches and white canes would improve their mobility, independence and ability to participate actively in social and economic activities.

One of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government and the MCE for the intervention.

“We are grateful to the government and to Hon. Dominic Gyasi for remembering us. This support has given us hope and dignity. We promise to use these items well to improve our lives,” the beneficiary stated.

Praise for Special Schools Initiative

The PWDs also welcomed Hon. Dominic Gyasi’s commitment to advocate for the establishment of special schools in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.

They described the proposed initiative as an important step towards ensuring that children with disabilities have access to appropriate and quality education.

According to them, combining economic empowerment with inclusive education would provide persons with disabilities with greater opportunities to develop their potential and become independent members of society.

They expressed hope that the proposed special schools would receive the necessary support from relevant stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service and other development partners.

Call for Continued Support

The beneficiaries prayed for God's blessings for the government, the MCE and the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly for supporting Persons With Disabilities.

They also appealed for similar interventions to be extended to more PWDs who may not have benefited from the latest distribution.

The beneficiaries expressed optimism that continued investment in livelihood support, assistive devices and inclusive education would help remove barriers faced by persons with disabilities and promote greater participation in community development.

The outpouring of gratitude reflects the beneficiaries' appreciation for the intervention and their hope for sustained support for the disability agenda in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.

They reiterated their commitment to making good use of the items provided to them and contributing positively to the development of their families and communities.

The initiative reinforces the call for an inclusive society where every person, regardless of ability, has an opportunity to learn, work, live with dignity and contribute meaningfully to development.
