The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has inaugurated responsible cooperative mining in Bibiani.
Speaking at the launch held at the Minerals Commission's office in Bibiani, Minister Buah emphasized that President Mahama's government is not against mining but is implementing measures to regularize it for responsible mining practices.
He said the government supports mining but aims to ensure it is conducted responsibly to protect water bodies and forest reserves.
The Minister noted collaboration with large-scale mining companies to support cooperative mining and skills development.
He added the portions of large-scale mining areas will be allocated to small-scale miners for their livelihoods.
The initiative will be owned and managed by the community, benefiting local people. Income distribution includes allocations for chiefs and landowners, land reclamation, and workers' benefits.

Adu-Gyamfi urged illegal miners to join the Small Scale Mining Association to protect natural vegetation and ensure sustainability.
