Confident Ladies Screens Bibiani Women Against Breast Cancer

Confident Ladies on Saturday, August 31th, 2024 organized a free breast examination and screening exercise for women at Bibiani in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

The exercise was part of the launching and 2nd anniversary celebration of the Association.

During an informative session, the head of the medical team from the Bibiani Government Hospital, Mrs Sakeena Obuo Bampoe, underscored the significance of comprehensive breast health checks and self-examinations as early warning signs of potential issues.

She street’d that it can help you detect changes that may be signs of infection, breast disease or breast cancer. The goal of doing a breast self-exam recognizes what’s normal for you. Having knowledge of the typical appearance and texture of your breasts can assist you in identifying any changes.

Beyond the screening, the women were also educated on how to examine their breasts themselves and the steps to take to maintain good breast health.

“ We are an institution that helps to promote and educate women. We try to empower women whichever way we can. We educate them and allow them to check their breasts,” she added.

Breast cancer is the commonest cancer among women worldwide.Early detection of the cancer is a big deal to its control.

Ms Margaret Asamoah Gyan, the deputy Secretary, urged participants to be “ambassadors and promote breast cancer awareness to reduce mortalities”.

She urged Ghanaians to undergo regular checks in order to detect the cancer early enough to get treated.

“It’s better to live with one breast or without one and take care of my children than to have died and left them. Keep a good eye on your health, particularly your breasts. Early detection could save your life,” she said.
