NADMO Assesses Flood Damage at Bibiani Estate Community JHS, Appeals for Support
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality have visited the Bibiani Estate Community Junior High School following a heavy downpour that flooded the school and destroyed several teaching and learning materials.
The visit was to assess the extent of the damage and to interact with school authorities on the way forward. The rainstorm, which occurred recently, caused water to enter classrooms, affecting textbooks, exercise books, furniture, and other educational materials.
Speaking to the media after a brief meeting with the school’s headmaster, Mr. Maxwell Nkese, the Municipal NADMO Officer, Mrs. Aminatu Abubakari, said her outfit would compile a detailed report on the incident and forward it to the regional office for further action.
She expressed concern about the situation and appealed to individuals, organizations, and benevolent groups to come to the aid of the school to help replace the destroyed materials and restore normal teaching and learning.
Mrs. Abubakari also used the opportunity to advise school authorities across the municipality to take precautionary measures during the rainy season. She cautioned against keeping students in classrooms when the weather is cloudy and there are signs of heavy rainfall, stressing that safety must always come first.
“Our priority is the safety of the children. Whenever the weather is threatening and heavy rain is expected, school authorities should consider early closure or other safety measures to protect the students,” she said.
The Headmaster of Bibiani Estate Community JHS, Mr. Maxwell Nkese, expressed appreciation to NADMO for the prompt visit and assessment of the situation. He described the incident as a major setback for the school, noting that several teaching and learning materials were destroyed by the floodwaters.
He humbly appealed to government agencies, corporate bodies, non-governmental organizations, and individuals to support the school in replacing the damaged items to ensure that academic activities are not disrupted.
Mr. Nkese emphasized that the school is committed to providing quality education, but the recent incident has created challenges that require urgent assistance.
The NADMO team assured the school authorities that their concerns would be captured in the report and submitted to the appropriate authorities for possible intervention.
