Do Not Close Students In Classrooms When Weather Is Threatening – NADMO Officer Advises School Authorities
The Municipal Officer of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, Mrs. Aminatu Abubakari, has advised school authorities to avoid keeping students in classrooms whenever the weather becomes threatening and heavy rain is expected.
She gave the advice during a visit to the Bibiani Estate Community Junior High School after a heavy downpour flooded the school and destroyed several teaching and learning materials.
According to Mrs. Abubakari, the safety of students must always be the top priority, especially during the rainy season when weather conditions can change quickly and lead to flooding or other hazards.
She explained that keeping students in classrooms during severe weather could expose them to unnecessary risks, particularly in areas that are prone to flooding. She therefore urged school authorities to monitor weather conditions closely and take precautionary measures, including early closure, whenever the situation becomes unsafe.
Mrs. Abubakari made these remarks after interacting with the headmaster and staff of the school to assess the damage caused by the flood. Several textbooks, exercise books, furniture, and other learning materials were destroyed after water entered the classrooms during the heavy rainfall.
She indicated that NADMO would compile a report on the incident and submit it to the regional office for further action. She also appealed to individuals, organizations, and corporate bodies to support the school in replacing the damaged materials to ensure that teaching and learning continue without major disruptions.
The visit formed part of NADMO’s efforts to assess disaster situations, provide guidance, and support affected institutions within the municipality.
