Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Decries Impact of Irresponsible Mining

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has lamented the detrimental impact of illegal mining on Ghana's environment, questioning whether citizens should remain idle as a few individuals pursue selfish interests at the expense of public health.

Minister Buah launched responsible cooperative mining in Bibiani, aiming to guide individuals and groups operating cooperatives in sustainable mining practices that protect forests and water bodies.

Minister Buah expressed dismay that 44 of 288 forest reserves have destroyed due to illegal mining.

He said Tarkwa Ghana Water Company halted operations due to high turbidity levels, a situation Minister Buah described as worrisome.

Minister stressed the fight against galamsey requires engagement, education, and sensitization rather than just military intervention.

Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah emphasized moving beyond partisan politics to collectively address the galamsey menace, making responsible mining part of communal life.
