A miner based in Bibiani-Hwenampori, Mr. Alex Donkor, has donated a range of educational and sporting items to the Abesinsuom M/A Basic School, popularly known as St. Abees, to support teaching and learning.

The donation includes teachers’ furniture, students’ desks, footballs, computers, graph boards, drawing instruments and marker pens, among other items.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Alex Donkor said the gesture was part of his personal commitment to giving back to the community and contributing to the development of education.

According to him, supporting the school is not intended to be a one-off exercise, indicating that he plans to continue contributing to the development of the community and its educational institutions.

Mr. Donkor, who is also seeking to become the Assembly Member for the Bibiani-Hwenampori Electoral Area next year, urged the school authorities to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to ensure that the donated items remain in good condition and serve the school for a long period.

He encouraged the authorities to ensure that the furniture, computers and other learning materials are properly maintained and used for their intended purposes.

Public Urged to See Public Schools as Community Assets

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Richard Boateng, commended Mr. Donkor for supporting education in the community.

Mr. Boateng stressed that public schools should not be regarded as the sole responsibility of teachers or government, but as institutions that belong to and serve the communities in which they are located.

He explained that although teachers are employed and paid by the government to teach, the communities also have an important role to play in supporting the development and maintenance of their schools.

He therefore appealed to residents to take greater interest in public schools and contribute to creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Mr. Boateng further encouraged parents to invest in the education of their children, noting that the responsibility of improving educational outcomes requires collaboration among government, teachers, parents and community members.

He also urged the school authorities and community members to take good care of educational facilities and materials provided to the school.

Abesinsuom Chief Commends Donor

The Chief of Abesinsuom, Nana Kwabena Gyekye, expressed appreciation to Mr. Alex Donkor for the initiative and his contribution towards education in the community.

Nana Kwabena Gyekye said the donation would support both teachers and students and appealed to the Municipal Education Directorate and other stakeholders to continue providing the school with teaching and learning materials.

He called for continued collaboration between the school, the community and relevant institutions to improve educational infrastructure and create better learning opportunities for children in the area.

The school authorities expressed gratitude to Mr. Donkor for the donation and pledged to put the items to good use while ensuring proper maintenance to extend their lifespan.
