Health Minister Inaugurates Pandemic Fund Steering Committee

The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has officially inaugurated the Pandemic Fund National Steering Committee.

The committee's mandate is to enhance Ghana's preparedness and response to public health emergencies with urgency, transparency, and accountability.

The Minister highlighted the importance of readiness in the face of growing health threats, citing recent outbreaks of meningitis, cholera, and Mpox.

The Pandemic Fund, coordinated by the World Bank and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to strengthen national systems for preventing, detecting, and responding to public health threats.

The 13-member National Steering Committee, comprising representatives from key sectors, will drive policy implementation with transparency and accountability.

The Minister urged the committee to translate policy into concrete action, ensuring Ghana's health security.

The WHO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana's health security efforts, highlighting the urgency of pandemic preparedness.

The organization commended Ghana's recent Joint External Evaluation (JEE) and expressed optimism about the project's potential to improve future performance.
