Bethlehem Assembly Member Donates Educational Materials, Urges Parents to Keep Children in School
The Assembly Member for the Bethlehem Electoral Area in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, Mr. Samuel Abugeri, has donated teaching and learning materials to the Bethlehem United M/A Basic and Junior High School to support pupils and students in their academic work.
The items presented to the school included exercise books, pens and mathematical sets.
Mr. Abugeri explained that the donation formed part of his campaign promise to contribute to the development of education and help improve teaching and learning in the Bethlehem Electoral Area.
Appeal to Parents
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Abugeri appealed to parents in the community to desist from sending their children to the farm during school hours.
He expressed concern that some parents engage their children in farming activities while they are supposed to be in school, particularly because Bethlehem is predominantly a farming community.
According to him, the fact that Bethlehem is a rural community should not be a reason for children to be denied the opportunity to receive quality education.
He stressed that students in Bethlehem sit for the same examinations as their counterparts in the cities and other urban communities, making regular school attendance and parental support essential to their academic success.
Mr. Abugeri therefore called on parents to prioritise their children's education by ensuring that they attend school regularly and are given adequate time to study.
Headmaster Commends Assembly Member
The Headmaster of Bethlehem United M/A JHS, Mr. Solomon Kankan, who spoke on behalf of the school authorities, expressed appreciation to Mr. Abugeri for the gesture.
Mr. Kankan said he had been heading the school for about ten years and had not witnessed such support from an Assembly Member in the electoral area during his tenure.
He said the donation would help address some of the challenges students face in accessing basic teaching and learning materials.
Students Express Gratitude
Some beneficiary students also expressed their appreciation to the Assembly Member for the support.
They explained that they come from farming communities where some parents sometimes struggle to provide all the educational materials needed for their children.
The students said the exercise books, pens and mathematical sets would help them participate effectively in lessons and reduce the financial burden on their parents.
The gesture is expected to contribute to improved learning conditions and encourage students in the Bethlehem Electoral Area to take their education seriously.
