Just In : President John Dramani Mahama has, with immediate effect, revoked the appointment of Anane Sansa Daly as a member of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS)
Former President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointment of Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) amid mounting concerns over her lack of a valid medical license to practice in Ghana. In an official communication from the Office of the President, the government announced the immediate removal of Daly and the nomination of Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke as her replacement.
The relevant authorities have been instructed to expedite Prof. Yorke's swearing-in. While the Presidency's statement did not specify the reasons for Daly's removal, sources familiar with the matter attributed the decision to sustained public and professional criticism. Concerns had been raised about her professional credentials and her representation as a medical doctor, despite not holding a license recognized by the Ghana Medical and Dental Council.
Several health sector stakeholders had questioned Daly's fitness to serve on the board of an institution as critical as the NHIA, which oversees the country's national health insurance policy and provides healthcare access to millions of Ghanaians. In contrast, Prof. Ernest Yorke has been widely welcomed as a credible and competent successor. A seasoned physician and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association, Prof. Yorke brings extensive experience in clinical practice and health sector governance.
His appointment is being seen by many in the health community as a corrective step to restore confidence in the NHIA Board's integrity and capacity. The NHIA Board is tasked with formulating strategic policy and providing oversight for Ghana's health insurance scheme—a key pillar of the country's public healthcare delivery system.
