Hon. Eric Opoku Urges Youth to Embrace Honesty, Humility and Integrity

The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for the Asunafo South Constituency, , has called on the youth to cultivate the values of honesty, humility, discipline, and integrity, describing them as essential qualities for personal growth and effective leadership.

Hon. Eric Opoku made the remarks while addressing participants during the presentation of six brand-new pickup vehicles to the Asunafo South District Health Directorate at the launch of the Asunafo South District Assembly's Free Primary Healthcare Programme.

Speaking passionately about leadership and character, the Minister said he believes in building long-term relationships with people who demonstrate honesty, loyalty, and a strong sense of responsibility.

"I am the type of leader who walks with people for many years. If you are able to walk with me for a long time, it means you are a person of good character because I do not tolerate dishonesty, shortcuts, or the desire to make quick money," he said.

Hon. Eric Opoku stressed that trust is one of the most important foundations of leadership. He explained that anyone entrusted with a responsibility must execute it faithfully, noting that accountability is a key requirement for those who seek to serve others.

He illustrated his point by saying that if someone is entrusted with money to be delivered to another person but instead misuses it, that individual has demonstrated that they cannot be trusted with greater responsibilities.

The Minister further advised the youth to avoid the temptation of seeking instant wealth through dishonest means, encouraging them instead to work hard, remain patient, and build their lives through dedication and perseverance.

He also appealed to members of the public not to be quick to judge whenever they see someone who was once close to him but is no longer part of his team.

According to him, people should seek to understand the circumstances before drawing conclusions or believing negative claims.

"If you see someone who used to be close to me but is no longer with me and the person comes to speak against me, first ask what he or she did wrong before accepting the story. There is always a reason why trust is broken," he stated.

Hon. Eric Opoku encouraged young people to remain humble regardless of their achievements and to uphold values that earn them the confidence and respect of society.

He noted that humility, honesty, loyalty, and integrity are indispensable qualities for anyone who desires to become a successful leader or contribute meaningfully to national development.

He concluded by urging the youth of Asunafo South to reject corruption, dishonesty, and the pursuit of quick riches, emphasizing that lasting success is built on hard work, good character, and service to others.
