Western North Receives 250 Laptops Under One Million Coders Programme

The Western North Region has received 250 laptops under the government's flagship One Million Coders Programme, a major initiative aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with essential digital skills.

The presentation, which forms part of President John Dramani Mahama's vision to promote digital transformation and youth empowerment, has been widely welcomed by stakeholders across the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brentum, expressed profound gratitude to President Mahama for extending the initiative to the region. He described the programme as a timely intervention that will empower the youth with practical skills in coding, cybersecurity, data analytics, networking, and other areas of information technology.

According to him, the One Million Coders Programme is a strategic investment in Ghana's future, designed to prepare the next generation for opportunities in the rapidly evolving global digital economy.

"This initiative demonstrates President Mahama's unwavering commitment to youth development, innovation, and job creation. It is a bold step towards building a technologically advanced Ghana," Hon. Brentum stated.

Also speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive for Sefwi Akontombra and Dean of MMDCEs in the Western North Region, Hon. Joseph Appiah, popularly known as Amonia, lauded President Mahama and the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations for introducing the programme.

He further commended the Regional Minister for his leadership in facilitating the allocation of the laptops to the region.

Hon. Appiah noted that the programme would open new opportunities for young people, enabling them to acquire valuable digital competencies that will enhance their employability and entrepreneurial prospects.

Meanwhile, the Western North Regional Director of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Mr. Lameni Awudu, urged beneficiary districts to ensure the proper care and maintenance of the laptops.

He also called on all interested persons, regardless of their educational background, to take advantage of the opportunity by registering through the programme's official portal.

"There are no qualification restrictions. Anyone with the passion to learn digital skills is encouraged to apply," he emphasized.

The One Million Coders Programme is expected to play a pivotal role in bridging the digital skills gap, fostering innovation, and creating employment opportunities for thousands of young Ghanaians.
