Government Has Educational Support for Persons With Disabilities — Bibiani MP
The Member of Parliament for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo, has assured persons with disabilities in the municipality of his readiness to support those who are determined to further their education.
According to the MP, the government has educational support programmes aimed at providing opportunities for persons with disabilities to pursue their academic aspirations and improve their future prospects.
Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo made the remarks during the disbursement of livelihood support items to 80 persons with disabilities by the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly through the Social Welfare and Community Development Department.
He said persons with disabilities should not allow their physical challenges to prevent them from pursuing education, acquiring skills or achieving their career aspirations.
“Government has educational support for persons with disabilities, and my MCE and I are ready to help anyone who is serious about furthering his or her education,” Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo said.
The MP encouraged persons with disabilities who have the desire to continue their education to approach the appropriate authorities and make their educational needs known so that they can be guided towards available opportunities.
He stressed that education remains one of the most effective ways of empowering individuals, particularly persons with disabilities, to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo also urged parents and guardians not to discourage children living with disabilities from attending school or pursuing higher education.
He noted that with the necessary support, guidance and determination, persons with disabilities can excel academically and occupy important positions in society.
The MP further commended the Social Welfare and Community Development Department of the Municipal Assembly for implementing interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods of persons with disabilities.
He urged beneficiaries of the livelihood support to make good use of the items provided to them and consider them as an opportunity to build sustainable sources of income.
The 80 beneficiaries received various items and assistance, including refrigerators, laptop computers, fufu-pounding machines, block-making machines, knitting machines, financial support and other livelihood-enhancing equipment.
The intervention is part of broader efforts to promote the economic empowerment, education, social inclusion and improved welfare of persons with disabilities in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality.
Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Municipal Chief Executive and relevant stakeholders to identify and support persons with disabilities who demonstrate the determination to improve their lives through education and productive economic activities.
