Filth Engulfs Bibiani Charco Market, Residents Plan Demonstration
The Bibiani Charco Market is facing a severe sanitation crisis, with overflowing rubbish containers and no immediate cleanup in sight.
The containers, intended to facilitate waste collection, are full, and the Zoomlion vehicle responsible for collecting the waste has stopped service due to financial constraints and vehicle breakdown.
Residents of Natwikumye are concerned about the health implications of the situation, particularly during the rainy season, which could lead to the spread of diseases like cholera.
The market's location in the heart of Bibiani, with food vendors operating nearby, exacerbates the issue.
In response, residents have decided to stage a demonstration on the principal street of Bibiani to protest the municipal assembly's inaction. They demand immediate attention to the sanitation issue.
Hon. Sebastian Obeng, the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has appealed to residents to remain calm.
He explained that the Zoomlion vehicle is currently undergoing maintenance in Takoradi and will resume service soon.
The MCE also emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining sanitation, as it is a shared responsibility.
