Fawokabra residents threaten to boycott Dec 7 election over poor road conditions

There is a possibility that residents of Sefwi Fawokabra, a farming community in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, might refuse to participate in the December polls if their road is not fixed.

For them, even though the government keeps trumpeting its infrastructural achievements in the country, their town lacks good roads. As a result, they presented the government with a three-month ultimatum to repair the roads or face their refusal to vote.

They stressed that the situation has given rise to challenges such as high transportation costs and difficult travel conditions during the rainy season.

Pregnant women frequently need to give birth on these roads, and some are transported on improvised wooden structures. The conditions have even deterred professionals like teachers from accepting postings in the area,” they added.

We will not also tolerate any political campaign activities in the area if we don’t see any action on our roads within this period.

According to Nana Kwadwo Gyaniegh, the Chief of Sefwi Fawokabra, even though they have complained countless times about the nature of the road to the necessary authorities, the road is still disastrous.

“I feel neglected and betrayed by the politicians who promised to construct the road.,” he said

He questioned the essence of voting for any political leader when “they would be abandoned with their challenges at the end of the day.

“We are farmers. We produce a lot of cash crops to support the economic growth of the country, but yet still, our road network is not motorable; why?” he asked.

He called on the authorities to act on their request or else we will not. They will advise themselves.
