Election 2024: “Tell your parents to reward the NPP with their votes for implementing Free SHS policy - Alfred Obeng - Boateng

The introduction of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has been one of the most transformative educational reforms in Ghana’s history.

Under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this policy has significantly increased the number of students gaining access to secondary education across the country, bringing renewed hope to many families.

The member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency Hon Alfred-Obeng disclosed this during his inspection of ongoing projects within the Constituency.

During his inspection at Bethlehem United Junior High School, where he is building the Morden Office complex for teachers of the school, he explained that one of the most immediate and visible impacts of Free SHS is the significant financial relief it has brought to parents. Before this policy, the burden of paying school fees, buying uniforms, textbooks, and other educational materials was a huge challenge for many families. For households with multiple children of school-going age, these expenses could be overwhelming.

Free SHS has alleviated these pressures by removing all tuition fees and providing essential learning materials, including textbooks and uniforms, at no cost. Parents can now focus on other financial responsibilities, knowing that their children’s education is secure. This relief has been especially crucial for families in rural areas, where income levels tend to be lower. The policy ensures that every child, regardless of their financial background, has the chance to acquire quality education and move closer to achieving their dreams.

Touching on its future benefits to Ghanaian society, he said the benefits of Free SHS extend beyond just the immediate gains of increased enrollment and financial relief for parents. This policy is laying a solid foundation for the future development of Ghana by investing in human capital. With more young people gaining access to secondary education, Ghana is poised to develop a more skilled and knowledgeable workforce.

He therefore uses the opportunity to inform the students to tell their parents to come out in their numbers come December 7 and reward the NPP with their votes for implementing Free SHS policy.

Mr Solomon Kakari, the headmaster of Bethlehem United Junior High School, thanked the MP for building such edifice for the teachers. He called to sleep up of its completion and apple ad for chairs for both teachers and students.
