Despite the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reclaiming the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the first time in over 20 years, the party’s Constituency Chairman, Mr. Yaw Berima, and other executives are reportedly being sidelined in post-election activities.

Charles Obeng, popularly known as Sir Coke and a member of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai NDC communications team, highlighted these concerns during an interview on the Stylish Radio morning show hosted by Hamza Mohammad.

According to Sir Coke, Chairman Berima and his team worked tirelessly during the 2024 general elections, even contributing personal resources such as vehicles and fuel to support the campaign. Their dedication was crucial in helping the NDC secure the historic victory.

“Chairman Yaw Berima and his team sacrificed a lot to secure this win,” Sir Coke said. “They invested time, resources, and energy, yet after the victory, they have been largely excluded from key party decisions and planning. This is demoralizing for those who worked on the ground to deliver the result.”

He added that other constituency executives have also been sidelined, raising concerns about the potential impact on party cohesion and morale. The sidelining has reportedly sparked tension among grassroots members who feel that the contributions of local leaders—the backbone of electoral victories—are not being properly recognized.

Sir Coke urged the party’s national and regional leadership to ensure that Chairman Berima and his team are actively involved in post-election activities and constituency management. He emphasized that such inclusion is vital to maintaining unity and strengthening the party ahead of future elections.

Political analysts note that sidelining grassroots leaders is a recurring issue in Ghanaian politics, where local executives’ contributions are sometimes overlooked after elections. Recognizing and empowering these leaders is essential for sustaining party loyalty and effective governance.

Party stakeholders in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai are calling on leadership to address these concerns promptly, to prevent internal divisions and ensure that the efforts of those who helped deliver the historic win are acknowledged. As the NDC works to consolidate its position in the constituency, many grassroots supporters hope the party will prioritize inclusion, recognition, and collaboration with the leaders who secured its victory.
