17,378 Candidates to Sit for 2026 BECE in Western North Region; Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Tops Enrollment
A total of 17,378 candidates across the Western North Region are set to sit for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), according to official figures released by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The candidates comprise 8,687 boys and 8,691 girls, with female candidates slightly outnumbering their male counterparts.
In all, 687 schools have registered candidates for this year's examination, made up of 515 public schools and 172 private schools across the region.
District and Municipal Breakdown
The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality recorded the highest number of candidates, registering 3,672 candidates. It was closely followed by the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, which recorded 3,464 candidates.
The remaining municipalities and districts registered the following numbers:
Bia West District – 2,223 candidates
Aowin Municipality – 2,205 candidates
Juaboso District – 1,777 candidates
Akontombra District – 1,398 candidates
Bodi District – 1,118 candidates
Bia East District – 921 candidates
Suaman District – 600 candidates
GES Expresses Confidence
Education authorities in the region have expressed confidence in the preparedness of candidates and the readiness of examination centres to ensure a smooth and successful conduct of the examinations.
The Ghana Education Service has also intensified stakeholder engagements and sensitization campaigns aimed at curbing examination malpractice while promoting integrity, discipline, and fairness among candidates, invigilators, and supervisors.
Parents, teachers, guardians, and community leaders have been urged to provide the necessary support, guidance, and encouragement to candidates as they prepare for this important academic milestone.
The 2026 BECE is expected to be conducted under strict supervision nationwide, with stakeholders optimistic about improved performance and excellent results from candidates across the Western North Region.
