“Businessmen Should Focus on Business, Leave Politics to Politicians” – Sir Coke
Mr. Charles Obeng, popularly known as Sir Coke, a member of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency NDC communications team, has cautioned that some businessmen are venturing into party politics for selfish interests, creating tension and divisions among politicians.
Speaking on the Stylish Radio morning show hosted by Hamza Mohammad, Sir Coke stressed that the intrusion of business figures into politics often undermines the efforts of dedicated party members.
“Some businessmen who have joined politics operate as if political power gives them the right to enjoy everything for themselves,” he said. “They focus on personal gain and fail to consider the collective good, which is causing unnecessary divisions and conflict within political circles.”
Sir Coke argued that politics requires a sense of service, collaboration, and commitment to the party and the people, which can sometimes be overshadowed when individuals prioritize personal wealth or influence over collective goals. He urged business leaders to concentrate on their enterprises and investments while allowing trained politicians to manage political affairs.
He further noted that while businessmen can contribute to politics through advisory roles or support, directly controlling political decisions for personal advantage disrupts party unity and discourages grassroots engagement.
“Businessmen should do their business and leave the politics to those elected or appointed to serve in leadership roles,” Sir Coke added. “When everyone respects their role, both politics and business can thrive without conflict.”
Political analysts echo his concerns, noting that the growing intersection of business and politics in Ghana requires clear boundaries to prevent conflicts of interest and maintain the integrity of democratic processes.
As Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai continues to navigate post-election dynamics, Sir Coke’s message serves as a reminder that collaboration, respect for roles, and prioritizing the collective good are essential for sustainable political growth and development.
