A/R: Gyereso residents appeal for ‘death trap’ school blocks to be fixed

Residents of Gyereso, a farming community in the Atwima Mponua district in the Ashanti Region, want authorities to help renovate their death trap school block.

Speaking with the media at the homecoming and fun raising to support their school project, the Kyidomhene of the area, Nana Kofi Nkwantabisa asking the government to fix their dilapidated classroom blocks to enhance teaching and learning.

He said the school has no toilet facility, which leaves teachers and pupils with no option than to defecate in the bush and the situation has affected academic work.

He stressed the classroom blocks which were provided during the Rawlings regime, have seen none renovation. There are only a few chairs for the pupils, interesting parents to provide additional tables and chairs for their wards.

For the pupils whose parents don’t provide them with chairs and tables, they either sit on a mat or lie on their bellies on a mat to write in class.

Bibianinews.com checks further revealed a lack of textbooks and various learning materials.

Teachers of the school declined to speak to Bibianinews.com for fear of sanctions by the District Education Directorate.The Kyidomhene of Gyereso, Nana Kofi Nkwantabisa and Communication Officer for Gyereso Unity Association (GUA) Mr.Yaw Boakye, who spoke to Bibianinews.com, called on government to intervene.

They used the opportunity to complain about their poor telecommunications network in the community.

According to them, the situation is affecting their social and economic lives and is even more dangerous in times of emergency.

They added their clinic needed renovation to enable it to render service to its teaming clients within and outside the district.
