The Sefwi Awaso community is in mourning after a devastating lightning strike on a soccer field claimed the lives of four children, while one miraculously survived. 

The incident occurred on Monday evening around 4:30 pm, while the children were playing football in the rain.

The deceased were David Obeng, 12, Vincent Yeboah, 9, Francis Asumadu, 13, and his younger brother, Josuah Omane Badu, 10.

According to Kennedy Ayitey Wisdom, Assembly member for Sefwi Awaso Central Electoral Area, the community is rallying around the 6-year-old survivor, who is receiving medical attention at Green-shield Hospital. The child's family has received support from well-wishers, and efforts are being made to ensure the child receives necessary care and treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Sefwi Anhwiaso Community Hospital mortuary for further investigation and preservation.

He said authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, working closely with the hospital and other stakeholders to ensure all necessary procedures are followed.

Kennedy Ayitey Wisdom advised parents and guardians to prioritize safety during severe weather conditions, citing this tragic incident as a reminder of its importance.
