The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal branch has recorded 43 fire outbreaks and 3 deaths in 2023 year.
In an exclusive interview with Bibianinews.com, the Municipal Fire Commander Divisional Officer Grade II Enoch Tetteh explained that out of the total number of 43, Frist Quarter was 7 cases, the second quarter was also 18, while 8 and 10 fire cases followed third and fourth quarters.
The Municipal Fire commander, Divisional Officer Grade II Enoch Tetteh, who described the record as alarming, stated that domestic fire outbreaks tops with 17 cases followed by commercial and vehicular cases.
“we had fire casualties of 14. People were involved in an accident with any injuries, but 3 people died,” he added.
DOII Tetteh, expressing disquiet over the incidence, said fire safety was a shared responsibility and entreated the public to avoid prank calls and follow all protocols to ensure the safety of all.
With domestic fires being the major concern, he said the Service would continue to sensitise stakeholders on the laws against domestic fires and its consequences to mitigate such incidents.
He warned that burning bushes is illegal and that you will be held accountable if your actions lead to bushfires.
He used the opportunity to appeal to institutions and individuals to support the service with fuel and motor bikes to intensify fire education within the municipality.
